Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant looking for your next opportunity in a supportive secondary school?

We are recruiting for a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in South Manchester, starting as soon as possible. This is a full-time role supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them to access learning, develop their confidence and make positive progress in school.

The role

Working closely with the school’s SENCO, teaching staff and wider pastoral team, you will provide tailored support to pupils across the school day. Support may be delivered on a one-to-one basis, within small groups or in the classroom.

Your responsibilities may include:

Supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs
Helping pupils to engage with lessons and access the curriculum
Providing one-to-one and small-group interventions
Promoting positive behaviour, emotional regulation and independence
Adapting your approach to meet individual learning and communication needs
Supporting pupils during transitions and less structured parts of the school day
Working collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO and other support staff
Contributing to a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment
The successful candidate

To be considered for this position, you must have previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN, ideally within one of the following settings:

A mainstream school with an SEN provision
A specialist SEN school
An alternative provision
A pupil referral unit
A youth, care or support setting involving young people with additional needs
You should also be:

Calm, patient and resilient
Confident supporting pupils with a range of needs and behaviours
Able to build positive, professional relationships with young people
Flexible in your approach and willing to respond to individual needs
Committed to safeguarding and promoting pupils’ wellbeing
Reliable and available to begin work as soon as possible
Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, youth work, psychology, health and social care or special educational needs would be beneficial, but relevant practical SEN experience is essential.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
