Everything a reading checks
Your CV the way the advert, the agency’s software and the recruiter will read it. The score is free with no account; a free account opens the full reading.
- Every skill in the advert
- Compared with your CV, with the points adding each is worth.
- A match rate from code
- Out of 100: skills 70, the advert’s title 15, a matching sector 15. Never AI.
- 13 searchability checks
- Contact details, headings, date format, short forms, length and more: what agency software needs to read your CV.
- 17 recruiter checks
- Measurable results, tone, overused phrases, UK conventions, chronology and more: what the person reading it notices.
- Pay and IR35
- On contract adverts, the day rate against the role’s advertised median, and IR35 exactly as stated.
- Tickets and checks
- Credentials the advert asks for, like DBS, CSCS or a licence, with the issuer’s own page.
- Formatting
- Fonts, margins and layout, checked on the file itself.
- An AI review, checked
- Written around your score. It can’t change a figure, and a sentence naming something your CV doesn’t show is removed.
Read the way a CV database reads it
Agency systems file your CV as a record and search it by its words. Fitread checks what they rely on: contact details in the body, standard headings, one date format, and each term written the way a search asks for it.
Anything a search could miss is flagged, with the fix in plain words.

Questions people ask
Do UK agencies use an ATS?
Agencies search their own systems (often called a CRM), and job-board CV databases, by job title, skill words, location, pay and how recently you were active. The words in your CV decide whether it comes up in that search at all.
Will software reject my CV before a person reads it?
In the systems we checked, every documented automatic rejection comes from a screening answer (right to work, clearance, DBS, a licence, availability), never from the words in your CV. Being found is the hard part.
Is it only for IT contractors?
No. It reads any CV against any UK advert: contract, temp or permanent, in any sector.
How is the match rate worked out?
Our code compares the advert’s skills with your CV’s. The advert’s skills your CV shows earn 70 points, the advert’s title 15, and a matching sector 15.
Is my CV stored?
Not unless you sign up. The file is read and not kept. Its text is held, encrypted, for 30 minutes so that a free account made in that time can keep it; otherwise it is deleted.
Is it free?
Yes. The match score is free with no account, and a free account gives you full readings for 5 adverts every 30 days, plus Job Match, the Tracker, the CV builder and the LinkedIn check. Fitread Pro adds unlimited readings and every fix explained, with 7 days free.
Who runs the CV check?
Fitread, from the team behind ContractorUK. It is a service of Fitread Ltd: your CV goes from your browser to Fitread to be read, and ContractorUK never sees it.
