About this contract

Our client a well established and well known business within the Nuclear setor are currently looking to hire a Waste Engineer/Package Manager to be part of a busy project based in Culham, Oxforshire on a contractual basis. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Waste Engineer to play a key role in the Decommissioning & Repurposing Programme. Working within a highly regulated nuclear environment, you will lead waste engineering activities across major decommissioning projects, ensuring safe, compliant and cost-effective waste management solutions.

Job Title: Waste Engineer/Package Manager
Duration: 12 Months
Location: Culham, Oxfordshire
Working Week: 4 Days Per Week Onsite
Rates: Competitive Hourly Rates - Inside IR35

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and deliver waste management strategies for decommissioning projects.
Lead waste characterisation activities, including DQOs, WSAPs and sampling campaigns.
Identify suitable treatment, recycling and disposal routes for radioactive and hazardous waste.
Coordinate contractors, laboratories and specialist suppliers.
Work closely with project teams, health physics, environmental specialists and regulators.
Manage technical risks and provide guidance to junior engineers and graduates.
Skills/Experience Required:

Degree-qualified in Engineering, Environmental Science, Physics, Chemistry or a related discipline.
Significant experience in waste management, decommissioning or another highly regulated industry.
Strong understanding of radioactive waste characterisation, classification and disposal.
Knowledge of UK nuclear and environmental regulations (IRR17, EPR, CDM).
Excellent stakeholder engagement, problem-solving and technical report-writing skills.
Chartered status or equivalent experience is advantageous.
