About this contract

Teaching Assistant - SEN College | Bournemouth | September Start

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role where you can genuinely make a difference?

Academics are recruiting on behalf of a specialist residential SEN college in Bournemouth for a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team from September. This is a full-time, term-time opportunity with the potential to become a permanent position.

The college supports young people aged 16-25 with Asperger's syndrome and high-functioning autism, providing a safe, structured environment where students can develop the confidence, independence and skills they need for adult life.

As a Teaching Assistant, you'll support learners on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, helping them access learning while encouraging their social, emotional and personal development. Some students may display behaviours that challenge or experience mental health needs, so you'll need to be calm, patient and able to build positive, trusting relationships.

Every student follows an individual learning programme tailored to their strengths, interests and aspirations. The curriculum combines academic, vocational, functional and life skills, preparing learners for greater independence and future employment.

The ideal Teaching Assistant will have:

Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant.

Experience supporting young people with SEN, particularly autism or Asperger's syndrome.

A patient, resilient and empathetic approach.

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their full potential.

What's on offer?

You'll work 40 hours per week, term time only, earning £14.24 per hour whilst on supply. Following a successful 12-week temporary period, you'll transfer onto a permanent contract with a starting salary of £22,674.64 per annum, along with the opportunity to continue developing your career within specialist education.

If you're a passionate Teaching Assistant looking for your next opportunity in Bournemouth and want to be part of a supportive team that changes lives every day, we'd love to hear from you.
