Lead Strategic Environmental Services
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Waste & Contracts Manager to join a London Borough Council on an initial 3-month contract.
This is a key leadership role responsible for managing environmental service contracts, driving service improvements, overseeing waste and recycling initiatives, and ensuring high-quality service delivery across the borough.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the procurement, commissioning, and management of environmental service contracts.
Ensure contractors deliver high-quality, value-for-money services that meet performance standards.
Drive strategic initiatives to improve waste management, recycling rates, and environmental outcomes.
Manage budgets, performance data, and operational service delivery.
Build and maintain strong relationships with elected members, senior stakeholders, contractors, and partner organisations.
Prepare and present reports to senior management, committees, and other forums.
Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team.
Manage customer enquiries, complaints, and service improvement programmes.
About You
You will have:
Significant experience managing waste, environmental, or public realm services.
Strong contract management, commissioning, and procurement experience.
Experience managing large budgets and delivering service improvements.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Knowledge of environmental and waste management legislation.
Strong analytical, reporting, and project management abilities.
Experience leading teams and driving organisational change.
