Contractor burnout: action without reflection will cause it in 2023

“Action without reflection leads to burn out” (Albert Einstein). Well, before the notoriously busy New Year engulfs both you and your contractor schedule for 2023, have you taken the time to reflect on the year you’ve had?

Are you intentionally considering what you want for this next 12 months? Because successful people take intentional actions. They take the time to understand what success looks like for them and make it happen, writes life coach Shwezin Win, founder of Win at life.

You should be running your business; not your business running you

We spend so much of our time just ‘doing.’ We move from one thing to the next. None more so, perhaps, than contractors, who find one three-month contract is often dovetailed into the next. You’ll get through a challenging week, or a torrid month and the next thing you know, the year has gone by. I get it -- life is just busy! Or hyper-busy if you’re a contractor. And living day-to-day, week-to-week, firefighting, will just mean surviving.

Think what you could do if you made things happen for you -- rather than things happening to you.

Benefits of life coaching in 2023 – for contractors

You are the secret of your success and happiness. Through coaching, we can unlock the potential; overcome the barriers that are holding you back and give you the control to your future. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, indecisive or you know you can achieve more, one-to-one coaching with me will help you develop the intentional actions that will move you forward in the right way.

Coaching will help you understand yourself, giving you the knowledge to grow and be authentic. In a confidence-boosting way, like freelance project manager Nicola experienced, but also on small, everyday things, such as improving work-life balance and keeping burnout at bay, as contract programme manager Mark discovered.

This isn’t client-interview stage 3…

Investing in you isn’t all about you developing a new ‘skill’ or ‘competency’ -- this is not the third stage of a client’s interview or test! It’s much more about your mindset, your confidence, your ability to be at your very best.

As much as many of the technology professionals who I’ve mentored over the years would like to, none of us can ‘Google’ the answers to the questions that make us unique. There are no right or wrong answers, there are only solutions that are right for you. That means only you can find them and this is where coaching comes in -- helping you understand which solutions are right for you, with clarity and certainty.

But if you’re still not sure if coaching is right for you, come and have a free call with me.

I’ll be honest with you, I’ll tell you as it is -- because your success is my success. My purpose is to help you thrive rather than survive.

Doing the same thing over and over, but expecting different results?

Finally, don’t let New Year busyness get in the way of reaching out to me, especially with ‘Blue Monday’ just around the corner on January 16th. Going it alone as an independent contractor as a challenging-looking 2023 begins is one thing. But as the inspiration for this article famously said (quoted in the introduction):

‘We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.’

So this year and particularly if you didn’t last year, give yourself a fair chance to really Win at life.
