    Hasta La Vista London

After many years of trying, threatening, I have actually landed a very good contract outside of the London investment banking sector, close to home and on a decent rate. Looks to be some longevity to it as well. Also seems like a very interesting project. It's true, I'm finally heading home and I just can't wait.

I've been unable to think of anything but positive after positive and I struggle to sleep at night as my head is racing with all the activities and opportunities this opens up. Actually, there is one downside. It saddens me to see how I've wasted the last few years of my life chasing a pipe dream. How it's left me hollow, shallow, unfulfilled and resenting my life in general. But the way I feel now couldn't be more opposite.

Given the title of this post I was tempted to say "I'll be back" but I really doubt, hope and pray that's not the case.

    Good for you.

I'm sure all London based contractors know what you mean, the joys of commuting and long hours.

I'm hoping to get out of the South East myself, what part of the country are you escaping to?

Good for you. I couldn't wish to live in a better place in the UK than London. It's not for everyone, thankfully - we've enough people living here as it is.

I'm not even an atheist so much as I am an antitheist; I not only maintain that all religions are versions of the same untruth, but I hold that the influence of churches, and the effect of religious belief, is positively harmful. [Christopher Hitchens]

So you changed your kitchen every year then? You can take my role down here, you've got all the qualifications to 'fit right in'.

not every year but you start looking at B&Q! my last contract role in london was 2003 i have had plenty of decent roles since and i wouldn't go back by choice, but each time your benched you wonder how many decent roles are about, take london and city out of your job alerts remove the duplicate postings and your soon into single figures or a decent commute.

but up ere they its not all about money...

I live on the fringes of the South East, and have always avoided working in Central London. It's down to raw numbers. On average I could maybe get £450 in the City, or £350/375 in a place like Milton Keynes or Hatfield. The extra £80 or so would barely cover the train.

Only way to work in London is to live there too, in a shared house. Which might be great, but really, that is all the extra pay would cover.
