    The Litvinyenko affair....

It was President Putin, with the Polonium, in the Millennium Dining room.......

BBC News - Litvinenko 'poisoned by Russian mafia state,' family's lawyer claims

A very high level official would have to sanction this murder because -

    1) very rare and expensive RADIOACTIVE material involved
    2) it's on British soil
    3) people who did it worked for KGB

That would not need to be Putin, but what would make that high level official sanction such a thing? Only if he knows Putin wants that guy dead.

Given the method of murder it should have been treated as state sponsoder nuclear terrorism, but Bliar was good mates with Putin, Brown was in charge at the time but Bliars point of view would certainly win the day.

Not only dead - but slow long drawn in public dead. A warning to others? Otherwise why not just shoot him and dispose of the body silently?

It was not meant to be found, unknown horrible death - perfect for KGB, but they certainly did not expect aplha radio emissions to be traced.

Well before that a few strange deaths (Putins enemies of course) with very very similar symptons happened, no good investigation was done and given polonium half life it can't easily be traced now.

In fact, well in the past KGB used nuclear stuff (but not Polonuim) to kill high profile defectors.

Either way it's pretty clear who administered the poison and the country that refuses to give up them becomes responsible - Russia did not even bother to investigate where Polonium came from as if nothing happened, even though it's a very strictly controlled EXPENSIVE material.

In Russia people in power hardly ever are dying naturally...

From the history of Russian leaders most of them were murdered, poisoned, killed in various ways. That's Russia, it's been like this for ages and will remain. It's in their blood..... Mr. Putin is so afraid of being poison etc. For Russian politicians, especially those from KGB humans life doesn't mean anything.....VERY SAD

And that's probably the only good thing about those leaders.

The bad things is that they typically managed to murder, poison, kill in various ways many people before they got what they deserved.

Another quite recent example former Ukraine's president Viktor Yuschenko was poisoned, most likely by the KGB, using Dioxin

Interesting timing of this investigation. I wonder if this wikileaks cable will have any airing - most probably not as it goes completely against the grain of the mainstream media narrative...

The memo, dated December 26 2006, recorded details of a dinner meeting at the US embassy in Paris between Russian Special Presidential Representative Anatoliy Safonov and US Ambassador-at-Large Henry Crumpton.

Speaking about the need for bilateral co-operation to tackle terrorism, Safonov "cited the recent events in London – specifically the murder of a former Russian spy by exposure to radioactive agents – as evidence of how great the threat remained", the leaked cable said.

"The implication was that the [Russia] was not involved, although Safonov did not offer any further explanation," read a comment added by U.S. embassy staff.

Documenting later exchanges between the men, the memo added: "Safonov claimed that Russian authorities in London had known about and followed individuals moving radioactive substances into the city but were told by the British that they were under control before the poisoning took place."
"Is someone you don't like allowed to say something you don't like? If that is the case then we have free speech."- Elon Musk

A Russian official claiming his country had nothing to do with a crime isn't really going to sway anyone with at least two brain cells to rub together.
