Labour got a higher percentage of the vote this time than in 2010.

If the SNP can be shown to either (a) be a wasted vote because no-one in Westminster listens to them; or (b) no threat to the union because they lost the referendum, then there might be more of a Scottish swing coupled with a reduction in the number of people who voted non-Labour because they worried about Lab-SNP.

If Labour can head off the UKIP threat (and when the UK votes to stay in the EU, what does UKIP do after that?), then there's certainly a chance.

But they need someone who can not only reinvigorate the party but also make it clear what they will do with / to the economy - they let the press and the Tories dictate the "Labour ruin the economy" line without any form of proper defence. Cameron kept trotting out the "there's no money left" letter over and over and over again to show that Labour couldn't be trusted with the economy, but no-one trotted out the "Good luck, old cock ... Sorry to leave it in such a mess." letter that the Tory chancellor left when they were voted out in 1964, for example.

I doubt they will win the next election - the Labour party is a natural party of opposition, after all - but at this stage I don't think I'd be totally ruling out the possibility of having a Labour PM next time round.

I voted Labour all the way through the 1990's. Sadly that party has had nothing worthwhile to say this century.

What Labour needs now is a boring leader who will steer them through the wilderness for a few years (like Neil Kinnock did) while patiently swatting away the more extreme elements and distilling their policies. Then, a year before the next election, a new, sexy leader might emerge who can actually win (Chucka, Liz Kendall or even David Milliband). Or it might not happen before the 2025 election.

The more I hear from Labour, the more it looks like 2025 for them. They are still in denial about losing the election. They are mostly still in denial about spending too much during the credit crunch. They won't be ready until all the Brownites have left parliament, or at least the front bench. They should also distance themselves from empty vessels like Russell Brand. Probably they will need a rebrand and a new logo too. I fear to say it but they need New Labour back, or something like it. New Labour was an election winning machine, and TB was the biggest winner they ever had by light years. They are in denial about that too. They need to get away from hating winners for the sake of it.
