There was a small item on the news the other day that said that street crime was, for the most part, not motivated by the need for money but by thrill-seeking or the need to redress equality in society . In my experience this attitude seems to becoming more popular - you've got it, I want it and I am not prepared to work for it. I also believe that the situation is being exacerbated by NL who seem to have made it, at the least, unfashionable to be succesful and, especially, wealthy. This has led to the 'it's not fair' culture and to people taking no responsibility for their own actions. Question for you lot is - how do we stop it? And do you think we should stop it or should there be more equality in society?

I think you should close your company down and go on the dole as a protest. I'm behind you all the way...
Older and ...well, just older!! -
Round up the it's not fair brigade and put them all in a big arena with £50,000 cash.
Tell them that the last one left alive gets the cash and then do the survivor for mass murder.

I must admit I hide my wealth all the time, and I always find myself apologising for it...but thats probably because most of my friends/family are rock bottom skint. I'm the odd one out, and I'm never really sure how to deal with it.
I think you're definately right (yes, me agreing with you) about the culture of kids these days - they expect things to be handed to them on a plate.
You just have to look at the multiple surveys of career aspirations of teens in schools - most young girls want to marry a footballer or go on Big Brother! Those are their career aspirations!Last edited by SallyAnne; 30 November 2006, 16:20.The pope is a tard.Comment

To be honest the problem is so entrenched it is unlikely that it will be undone that quickly. I do wonder sometimes if we should make benefits that absolute minimum required. In otherwords give you a roof above your head and food in your belly. We also seem to have this daft idea that being poor is something like having only 40% the average wage. This is absurd not least because their will always be the poor. Try defining it as not having the minimum required to live. One thing I really would like to see is an end to the plaintive cry of I can't get my fags/Celeb mags/Sky/DVD/VCR yadda, yadda, yadda. Get stuffed! I'm not bl**dy paying for someone to stuff a burning leaf in their gob. I'll happily help them pay for food (and that is not defined as x pints of Fosters either) but luxuries such as fags and sky are totally out of order.Comment

I once had a problem with some youths where I lived in Doncaster and well remember the comment from one of the plod "What are you doing driving that sort of car in that kind of area?"
I was already part way through emigrating to Denmark, so I can't say it made up my mind.Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.
