Advice needed: Told client going to LA, but have ended up in Cuba

I’ve started a new gig, one month in and the client knew about my PTO for a week.
I was supposed to go to LA, but one thing has lead to another and now I’m going to Cuba. I fly out in a few days and the change has been very very last minute (I won’t bore you with what’s happened)
Anyway client has suggested they need help on the week I’m away, I don’t mind working remotely, however small problem:
    1) they still think I’m going LA
    2) Big US IB, but my locations in the Uk

Do I tell them i can’t work the week I’m away or do I work and hope they don’t look into the location (ip address) of the work laptop I’ve been given.

Before you ask, I can’t tell them I’m going to Cuba.

They are a big IB, what do you think they monitor for with regard to embargoed countries?

Tell them you can’t work the week.

      I’d rather work.
Are they able to find out my location through the company laptop I will be using?

I’d rather work, I’ll have lots of down time, not much for sitting on the beach all day and doing nothing.
But was wondering if they could find out my location through when I’m using the company laptop abroad?
They ghost software on there and remote it help desk access.

I work in a sensitive part of the IB.

What you would rather do doesn’t matter here.

Just tell them what’s happened and you’re now going to Cuba so can’t work.

              OK. Security consultant hat on.

The fact that you have to ask this questions is a clear indication that you do not have the technical prowess to get away with this. Despite the ethical issues in taking a US IB laptop to ******* Cuba.

Spin up an EC2 instance & learn about IP P 51 and post your results from the bench here.

              Quality trolling though.

Sounds like you shouldn't be anywhere near a sensitive part of the business to me.

                  Settle down.
                  Just a question.
No problem, I’ll take the week off.
