    Caravan!

    May seem a tad reckless in the current climate (literally) but here goes ... I currently work away on a contract (outside IR35) and offset my monthly rent that I pay for a flat near the work location (200 miles from my family home). I am able to offset £625 (receipted) each month through the umbrella company. I'm looking to incorporate and go limited next month.

    I am considering buying a caravan as the modern ones are superb in terms of the services and can be comfortably lived in during the winter. My accountant suggested I don't buy it through the company but instead simply offset the pitch rent, services, utilities etc. A friend advised I get my partner (soon to be wife) to buy it and then I pay her rent? That would then give the headache of her having to declare that as income I guess. I really don't know.

    Has anyone done anything similar?

    I cant see why you can't buy it through your company.

    Lots or road workers and other "on site" trades have caravans that they use. As long as if you use it for a holiday you put it through the books and pay market rates you wont have a problem.
