Because a man who invented a vacum cleaner says so? who next Jade Goody?
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

One niggle about the Stern Report though:

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_Stern

"After his time working for the World Bank, Stern was recruited by Gordon Brown, then Chancellor of the Exchequer, to work for the British government where, in 2003, he became second permanent secretary at H.M. Treasury, initially with responsibility for public finances, and head of the Government Economic Service."

Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.

Which just about demonstrates why one should ignore the Stern Report. It started from the proposition to raise taxes and then sought to back that up. Which is no doubt why the only answer it seemed to come up with was raising taxes (rather than say tax breaks to encourage people to convert their homes and offices to renewable forms of energy)

Agreed. Nothing is as it seems with New Labour.
