The ‘T’ on sale of domain name?

Don’t know why I was asked this; I don’t do the T word.

A person of my acquaintance has received an offer for their ‘website’. I’m sure they mean the URL not the content. They want to know if it would be classed as income or a capital gain. I have no idea how much money we are talking about here, but as a working figure assume £1,000. Has anyone done this?

Even if I were a T-payer, I’d just take the money and say nothing.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

So long as this person isn't "trading" buying & selling domains, and providing it's less than (IIRC) £5k then no T. I think.

Treated as a normal Capital Gain I think. So, provided the gain does not exceed £9,200 (I think thats the amount but i cant look it up as I'm not in the office) then no tax. Still needs to be declared on tax return though.

If its a ltd co that is receiving the funds then there'll be CGT on the whole gain as there is no annual exemption applicable.

        Thanks all.

Just curious, capital gain would be sale price less total renewal fees (for n years) including VAT?
