What is the best software to quickly create Encypted PDFs?

Want to send out marketing documents in PDF format, and know that if they are distributed to others they will remain intact. Not interested in restricting who can read the documents.

Just about any cryptographic product (PGP?) can be used to calculate a fingerprint (or hash) or the document or any other type of file. This is just a (much smaller) series of characters unique(ish) to the document, but a lot smaller. This fingerprint would change significantly if even one character of the file were changed.

There's no "Encrypt PDF" option anymore. The options are hidden in "Security options"

Tiger does everything I need and you've given another reason not to upgrade... that's a bit crap if they've taken encrypt function out. It's proved very useful in the past.

I don't think they've taken it out - you can still get the full password to open function, and separate passwords for restricting printing etc.

I don't think he wants to encrypt his files (despite saying so in the question), just to know or safeguard against the file being tampered with. A digital signature (or fingerprint) will do that.

I've decided to go with EncryptPDF.

It is encryption I am interested in. With this, it is possible to encrypt a PDF documents in such a way that Readers can read the content, but it will not allow editing or cutting and pasting of portions of the document.

Can be done through the export PDF function of Open Office.
