Is there a class gap and should it be narrowed?

Narrow UK class gap, urges Harman

The class gap must be narrowed in an effort to improve people's life chances, Labour's deputy leader Harriet Harman has said.

    ========================

presumably that will be achieved by bringing the upper classes down to the lower classes level?

      dont be silly!

Ms Harman, who is also Commons leader and minister for women and equality, told delegates at the TUC conference in Brighton: "Equality matters more than ever and it is necessary for individuals, a peaceful society and a strong economy.

So there you have it. You know you can believe her...

How do you narrow the "class gap"?

        Class is not wealth.

I think she means narrow the wealth gap by taking from those that do and give to those that can't be bothered. I.e std Socialist policy.

I would like to think she meant equal opportunities for all. Somehow your interpretation seems far more likely.

I read that article and it made me so angry.
This should lead to a piece from dodgy about how NL policies lock people into social classes by making them dependant and how the Tories would (generally speaking) make social status only dependant on peoples ambition and ability. I would agree with him.

Just look at us for an example. I know some of you were middle to upper class to start with but... Are we not examples of throwing off the mantle of poverty? Do we not use our skills and ambition to better ourselves?
All NL do is try to bring us all down to the lowest common denominator instead of removing the barriers to class climbers.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

"She said examples were the fact that a rich man can now expect to live longer than a poor woman"

Of course she forgot that women live longer than men - surely an inequality that labour must correct?

I concur. More NL dogma. Pity they can't see it will never work because people are not equal regardless of what this bunch of useless cnuts say or do. MP's salary increases and pensions are a prime example...

                  Duh!

Class and wealth are inextricably entwined.

What is she trying to say?

People from poorer families generally have shorter lifespans than people from richer families? I am so glad we have people with such amazing powers of insight leading us.

How can she sit there and attack class when the governments policy entrenches it in education , housing etc.

Her and the likes of <profanity>Toynbee</profanity> et al, are so patronising but also galling hypocrites. They are the people that they are rallying against.

Harmen wears a BPV in her own constituency which if the is to fcking dumb to see it bears testimony to NL's "war on class"

She is a prime one to talk isn't she.

She obviously extracts the silver spoon first.
