Nationwide are one of the best. We have several generations of savings with them and so I have been keen to enquire about their stability.
Their loan/saving rate is one of the best (i.e. lowest) in the sector. They are not a PLC and hence not subject to stock market fluctuations that can cause rumours. Interest rates are one of the best, such as on their e-savings accounts/bonds. They have recently taken over Derbyshire BS and another one (I can't remember now), who were in trouble, so in effect Nationwide saved them. When NRK hit the crapper, £2bn worth of funds came into Nationwide.
However you will find that Nationwide are very busy at the moment and hence will not be able to open up a savings account for you quickly. You may have more luck online - worth a try. Frankly I'm amazed that a financial institution these days can afford to be so relaxed about getting funds!Comment
