Gartner's #1 money saving tip: ditch your contractors

    http://blog.myboulton.com/2008/10/ga...penses-in.html

Gartner analysts presented a list of 20 ways that IT execs can slash expenses.

    1. Gartner estimates that 37% of the average IT budget is dedicated to personnel, so this represents a major opportunity to save money. Gartner recommends a blend of hiring freezes, reducing or eliminating special bonuses, cutting back on outside contractors.

    (snip)

    8. Think about renegotiating contracts and strategize ways to save money with vendors.

Certain jobs (or projects) within a skill set require specalist experience to reduce time, risk and expense.

Gartner are full of bulltulip as usual. They were the guys who told everyone they could save gazillions by outsourcing to India; when it turned out to be a disappointment, they predicted insourcing as the new trend. They told everyone that there’d be nothing but e-businesses before long, then the dot.com bubble burst and they said that too many of those businesses had a crap business model. Now they’re saying dump your contractors; guess what, in a few months time when projects fail and systems collapse, they’ll be recommending outsourcing and contracting again. Anyone, especially any CIO who takes any notice of Gartner is an idiot who shouldn’t be made responsible for running the bin emptying policy at a local chip shop, never mind the ICT of a multinational. Unfortunately, people do seem to listen to them.
And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014

Oh you meant THEIR (as in belonging to them), sorry it's a completely different word not even a spelling error......

I agree much of what comes out of Gartner is utter bollards.

Can anyone find anything that Gartner have said that was accurate at the time and they haven't come full circle on?

                    It's all management bollox anyway.
