I have had my CV online on my website for at least 8 years, maybe 10. I've got a lot of calls from it, but not a single one has been from a prospective client, all have been from agencies. Actually a lot of those have been from people saying "I found your CV on the internet" when it is clear that they have an old version and probably bought it in a job lot from someone else. In some of those cases they clearly don't even have a copy of it in front of them.
By now I am known to most of the agencies that specialise in my area, and indeed to a number of large clients.
So I doubt that I need an online CV any more. Still, no harm in it, I suppose. Except that I do get things like the guy in Belgium who hawked it round agencies as a contractor that he was able to offer (an agency I had worked with told me they had got his pitch). I don't mind working with agencies, but I see no reason to insert a parasite or two in the chain.
