    Encryptiin Excel and Winzip

How secure is the encryption in Excel 2000 and in Winzip. I want to set up an internet based file store for my own use, and it would be easier if I don't have to use PGP.

Apparently if you use a short[ish] password then it can be cracked in a few days.

Apparently if you'd used Google then the answer to your question can be found in 0.12 seconds.

Yes but you don't get all the comedy answers on google.

If you just want to encrypt files then stick em on the web somewhere something like Truecrypt may do (www.truecrypt.org/).

As long as you're using a decent encryption algorithm (AES, Blowfish etc) you'll be fine.

At the end of the day, what's the risk you're trying to mitigate? What's the value of the data you're trying to secure?

        Older and ...well, just older!!
