Contract changed - need independent review

I got my renewal yesterday, which is cool.

The client changed the contract terms and conditions quite a lot, mainly to do with copy rights, insurances etc etc , I am contracting direct, so I need an independent legal advice on the contract.

Does anyone have experience of a good legal contract review supplier; the ones on PCG seem to do more with the taxation than legal terms.
Also which are the best deals nowadays relating to indemnity insurances etc?

Bauer and Cottrell, unless you've got your own firm.

I've seen this before where they require that anything I invent when I'm on their site belongs to them ... erm, that'd be a "No" then!

        Tried Bauer and Cottrell?

There's cheap Prof Indemnity from Randall Dorling if you're a PCGer

For that they will also negotiate any nessesary changes with the client/agency on your behalf. They are also very good at it.

Have you tried calling the PCG and asking if they have anyone who can do specifically legal reviews rather than tax based ones?

B&C are mainly tax related IIRC.

exactly they want all my inventions - also restriction on working with other companies that may be seen as competitors - got about 11 pages saying that... even though I have no projects/inventions in progress at the moment, and I don't intend to work for multi client, I find the restrictions too much.

And how many hours of chargeable time does that relate to?

I had to call on egos (Roger Sinclair) some years ago because of a particularly mind-bending contract. It cost rather more than £155 but ignoring his advice would have left me wide open to being sued for failures by the client! Plus a whole bunch of other weirdness. I felt it worth four times what I paid. He is an IT contracts law specialist and has been operating for donkeys' years (it seems like it, anyway!)

Try Lawspeed. They have a wider range than B&C

Also the PCG legal helpline will try and help if you have any obvious questions (like "What does this mean?") but they will not talk specifics of a written contract since they won't have had the chance to assess it properly.
