When you have a pump-out of the head tank on a narrowboat, the boatyard bloke usually gives you a long, thin piece of wood and suggests you use it to rummage around in the bottom of the tank to get any stuck lumps moving.
At every site I have used this service and been asked to use the device, it has been referred to as The Tulipty Stick.
