Just wiondering what people on here call a warchest to mean?

Is 30K in cash a sizeable warchest? 100K?

At what point do you say I have a big enough war chest ??

It depends on your commitments, £100k would probably last me 10 years.

I would say about 20-30K should be enough for most - really depends on what your expenses are though.

I never manage to build one, I just get into debt and hope I can pay it off before the next spell on the bench.

It can be longer that 6 months that you are out though .... Feast and famine this industry. I tread very carefully here, but trying to illustrate a point.
