'Tis supposed to be the quietest week of the year in Pimpdom, but I've had 9 calls about banking jobs since Monday. All seem to be genuine (e.g. no reference trawls etc.) Anyone else finding the market surprisingly busy this week?

Lots of banking jobs all of a sudden?

They're not in Belgium, they're all London except one which is Europe-wide.His heart is in the right place - shame we can't say the same about his brain...Comment

Dunno whether there really are lots of jobs out there. I just "cancelled" a whole load of contracts with contractors and most other areas within my bank have done the same.
A friend at another major city bank was telling me the same thing over lunch this afternoon that she too had just given the arse (and what an arse it is too!) to a whole heap of her contractors.
Several other contacts I have around London are also doing the same thing. So Id take these calls with a pinch of salt mate.

Yup certainly is...
I'm used to sending hundreds of applications off, getting no replies and then using it as an excuse to do nothing, unfortunately its different this time leaving me in a "what the f** should I do" mode.
Oh just read the mail about sacked contractors, ... but maybe these are Java bods just getting their "come uppance".
The bank I'm in is in "recruit big time" mode.
Yes WEIRD.Last edited by BlasterBates; 22 December 2005, 18:00.I'm alright JackComment

But I really like the job I'm doing (multithreaded C++ and telecoms) so I'll not be looking.

I'm currently looking for a c++ contract and the investment banking market is tough at the moment and yes I have worked in banks for years.
Interviewers are being very very fussy. One particular risk managament job has been out with about 5 different agencies so it may seem like there are more jobs than there really are. It does seem like there is a shortage of java staff at the moment though.'Orwell's 1984 was supposed to be a warning, not an instruction manual'. -
