There has been talk for a while of moving the May Day Bank Holiday to another time of the year.

The most recent suggestions (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1362640/May-Day-Bank-holiday-replaced-St-Georges-Trafalgar-Day-bid-boost-tourism.html) are either moving it to April as a St George's Day break or October as a Trafalgar Day one.

Which would you prefer?

Why would tourists care what day was a bank holiday except to avoid it and the crowds?

Have to say it's the one thing I miss form home. It's nice having a long weekend in October.

Not sure if it's the same bank holiday in Scotland, either way I work septic time so no missed days on the timesheet :happy

If it was moved to April because of that Roman dragon-abuser who never set foot in this country, it would conflict with Easter Monday in some years - including this year.

I think of bank holidays as traffic congestion, cant get in anywhere because of the millions of kids etc.

So for me, a bank holiday would be a weekend when it would nice to be forced to stay at home
middle of summer :)

Trafalgar day is fine in my book. I can't think of any Bank Holidays in the autumn, but there are loads in the spring.

I thought this was another thread about AtW and his incessant :winker:ing.

Would be nice to have a break after August. and while they are at at it can they move Easter Monday to either June or July and only give kids one week off at Easter!

That would be good.

Keep it in May. I prefer having a Socialist holiday to a Nationalist one.

No 'cancel it altogether' option? A waste of a billable day.

WHS. Bank holidays are for permies. Scrap the lot.

If we need to have non-billable days then they should be more spread out during the year.

Me too, but the great thing about May Day is that it should appeal to everyone, because of his traditional roots as a spring festival.

Does anybody care what the bank holiday represents? To most people it's just a day off (or a 20% tax for that week for us). Better to spread them out through the year.

I think there has always been a streak in the Tory party that sees this as a socialist holiday, which must be removed. That's who cares!

Anyway, I'm no worse off for a bank holiday.

Later holiday is preferable.
Why not tie up with thanksgiving?

It would be good for business as the septics are closed anyway and an extra shopping day for Xmas. Not sure what excuse we could use.

Or we could make it 4th of July to celebrate closing our Washington tax office.

Better still, why not change the length of every month to have 28 days.

Make filling in my accounting spreadsheets so much simpler :eyes

As its my birthday on St Georges Day, I vote for that.

It would also cheese off anyone who is not English!

Trafalgar Day in October - would cheese off the French & Spanish

Battle of Britain Day in September - annoy the Germans

What other nations can we upset :devil

If they are trying to do this to promote tourism then a bank holiday in Autumn isn't going to help tourism in the UK, as they keep telling us it will.

Certainly haven't missed the halloween bank holiday in the oul sod, nice to have the double whammy in May over here.

Alas and alack it is one less invoicing day, but sometimes it is nice to have the odd day off.

WHS. Bank holidays are for permies. Scrap the lot.I don't observe them and frequently fail to notice them apart from those attached to seasonal holidays.
