    DIY Accounting

Anyone use it? For £20 seems good value

I need to do the books for OH's small business and my Excel sheet doesn't really cut it
Am I right in assuming I can do most of the end-of-year with it , or at least have it in a ready state for an accountant to look at

I use Xero (recommended) for my PlanA/B/C company but it's a bit heavy for a small business that does 4-5 transactions a month

I use Xero, but find I also need an accountant to help me be tax efficient.

The say they do the CT600 calculations, but I didn't see a mention of the accounts for Companies House (which are pretty much the same).

For everything it says it does, £20 sounds a bit too cheap.

I could do with something, but a lot of the software on offer seems to be more about bookkeeping/invoice generation, which you may as well do yourself and/or use SJD's spreadsheet. If anyone has a recommendation of something that will generate the full set of year end accounts (even linking to HMRC's software)...
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

You may wish to google zedAccounts to try a free accounting package. The software produces a full set of accounts in statutory format.

          ZED.

Wow, recommendations from people with 1 post.

If you're going to tout for business you'll be much better off posting under a username that identifies you with said business. Who knows... provide some real answers to questions and you may get some decent business.

You don't know the half of it! They're probably quite ticked that I butchered their posts.

Had a quick look at Xero, and it looks pretty cool.

And at ~ 1/10th the price of my accountant it may well be worth considering.

I'd just be worried I'd make an arse of it.

Xero is good but it's a bookkeeping and payroll package - it doesn't get you away from the accountant.

It's aimed more at Sage etc. It's also £20/month.

I think it would be overkill for contractor companies, but good if you have a small business with a couple of staff, lots of people to invoice or complicated bank reconciliations.
