    Breaking and entering

A thread on laptop security on the professional forums reminded me of these rather scary youtube vids:

How many people have a simple yale lock on their front door?

Not me - Banham, with a Banham mortice lock.

And the door has a steel sheet cover and steel reinforcing strips round the doorway - The neighbours probably think I am the local drug dealer.

I took a Banham mortice lock to pieces before Christmas as it failed and my friend was quoted £120 for a replacement. I was expecting it to have anti lock-pick devices inside but all it contained was the leavers and a single spring and bolt. The spring replacement solved the problem. It appears that only some of their locks are pick-proof.

No yale here. Don't know what you call it but we have one of those hexagon types moving three or four latches the length of the door at the same time.

All the latches are controlled by one barrel.
