    Unique Taxpayer Reference

How do I find my Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR)?

My accountant said I will need get my UTR before I set up my Ltd company. He said it might be on correspondence from HMRC, but it isn't in my case.

This page on the HMRC site says:

The Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) will have been issued by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) when you,...registered for Self Assessment
So this means I HAVE to register for self assessment to get my UTR? Is there any issue with doing this while I am still a perm?

If I do have to register is it this form I fill out?

I would suggest you get a UTR AFTER becoming a company director. There is no requirement to get one beforehand. You have the right form - or else you can do it over the phone by calling 0845 900 0444.

I agree with greg on this this one.

Once you set up your LTD and become a company director you should register for self assessment here HM Revenue & Customs: Registering for Self Assessment

that is if you are not already registered?

But this is something that your accountant should be able to deal with and advise you on i would suggest speaking to them first really.

        Hi,

There is no need to obtain a UTR before you become a director.

When you do though you have 2 options, either file an SA01 form or ring your local tax office and ask to be issued one.
