    High activity on the market?

    Hi,

Has something changed on the contractors job market in the last two weeks?

I am getting lots of calls from recruiters, especially for last 2-3 weeks.

    Does anyone have same experience?

    Thx

Would you like to qualify that statement with a few unimportant snippets of information ? What's your key skill ? Where (geographically) are all these 'jobs' that you're getting phoned about ?

I have had quite a few calls this week. But i am new to this whole contracting malarky. Seems to be (decent) .net devs in london/south east are in short supply

Wintel and Storage support has definately increased in the past 3 weeks - I'm getting hammered with invitations now that I've sorted a contract, after a 9 month bench

Plenty of activity in Infrastructure since April really, the market has bottomed out but I doubt rates touted could get much lower. Getting plenty of calls (3-4 per week) during June/July with:

            1. Joke rates for my specialism (£400/pd)
            2. Too many applicants
            3. Outside of London.

I got a 12 month consultancy contract in late May after being benched for 2 1/2 months, I held out for an decent rate (£550/pd) and location (City). Have now handed in my notice for another gig (long story) paying more (£650/pd), locked into a project where the objective is known, budgeted for and more stable.

200 applicants per gig in some cases during the Jan-May period, it is hard going out there, with more senior applicants (£850-£1k range) dropping down a level just to get a contract.

End of July and August when the brats are on summer holiday.

The only clients recruiting then are desperate, or have sufficient management staff who either are childless/have children who are all grown up/children who all are babies.
