    I had that once, and the OS had to be re-installed. It's called Cool Search or something like that. My mistake was to run Spybot/AD-Aware with IE explorer open. Shut everything, run Spybot, and pray. Also get an anti-virus.

        Firefox on it's own ain't that great - something in clamav hijacked it to bloomberg.com just after installing mepis - I had to add a shedload of blockers in my /etc/hosts

            Friend of mine had that. I had to download Firefox on my laptop, copy it to his, install it, then use Firefox to download the MS Anti-Spyware software (now called Defender I think), then run that. IE was completely screwed and unusable during this whole process but the above steps cured it eventually.
