Isn't he meant to be God's representative on earth and chosen by God for the role? That's not something you can resign from; isn't it up to God to fire him? Or was God wrong all along? Was somebody else really God's choice and it's all been a scam?

I saw him at Saint Paul outside the walls (Rome) on 25/02/13. He was very frail and came down the nave on a motorised golden zimmer. He did speak, at length actually.
