    Villian or hero?

BBC News - Kim Dotcom: On the road with Hollywood's biggest enemy

Is Kim Dotcom a villian or a hero?

    Capitalist hero of course

    Vote UKIP!
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

Hmm I think you will find that sharing everything for free is a little more communist/socialist than capitalist????

I also think his assertion that ' he just provides a service and it is not up to him to judge what people use it for' is somewhat a weak defense.

It seems he feels it is wrong for film companies who put a lot of money into making films to then expect that they can get the full return on their investmment by chargin people to watch it.

So all of you as contractors are happy to give your time away for free?

If he did it for free how does he afford the server infrastructure...I think you'd find he is a dirty capitalist and that he's doing it purely for money

There's no such thing as intellectual property.
With that being said, having thought long and hard about it previously, I believe that copyright (although in a slightly different form that its current legal incarnation which is tied to IP etc) is a perfectly valid concept.

So while patents can't righteously be enforced, copyright could be. So I tend to pay for my books etc.

Whether KDC is liable or not for providing a platform which could be used to violate copyright is a different question. I think it's not something that would be enforced in a free society, although copyright violations themselves *could* be.

noo he is not doing it for free - he is charging for a service which in effect lets other people use other people work for free

so in essence he makes money out of other people's work without permission of other people.

What the holy crap does theft have to do with capitalism? Theft is antithetical to capitalism.

Hero is a bit of an over used word these days.
If governments control what we Read / Watch / and Download then we are in a dictatorship.
But I have a MEGA account and have nothing against the guy.
