    Here we go again....

Up until 2 weeks ago I doubt that much of the British public had even heard of ISIS.

Now it's ISIS this and ISIS that. ISIS are going to establish a caliphate in the Middle East from which they will wage war on the west, returning Jihadis are going to attack us and behead us on our own streets etc...

    And so, this:

Former defence secretary says first duty of state is to protect citizens and public will accept greater monitoring powers

    Talking about problem, reaction, solution.

This ISIS business didn't just happen overnight, they must have known about it for years, ever since the Syria unrest started, or even earlier after the invasion of Iraq. Yet, here they are conveniently seizing on current events as an excuse to intrude even more into our lives.

I have to say this, and I know it'll be unpopular, but they really should be targeting the communities from which all this kind of poison seems to emanate - and if that means giving people with big beards or hijabs a good shake down at the airport then so be it because it's all coming from their communities, not ours - and yes - your average white middle class family on a flight to Majorca shouldn't be subjected to any of this crap because it ain't them wot's doin' it

To be fair I agree with you Zoco, I read the article about the 3 guys from Cardiff that have been off fighting in Syria and was astonished seeing as I'm from that neck of the woods so to speak.

At the end of the day it's quite obvious where the threat may eventually come from so instead of monitoring everyone they should devote their resources to monitoring those communities.

The authorities are actively monitoring certain communities only. But because of stupid PC, they cannot say that, so they generalise the terms. How many times have you seen a middle aged white male being stopped and searched? This is just an excercise to stop themselves being branded as racist.

Apart from the white widow of High Wycombe and others....
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

The American government are experts at pumping out scare stories so they can get public support for whatever they want to do that the public wouldn't normally agree to. In this case the Westminster government want to be able to get more access to your private communications via GCHQ so they scare you into thinking its intended to track Jihadists/ISIS.

Profiling of some sort has to take place. I remember a really old couple, probably in their 90s, struggling through security at Heathrow. No-one was allowed to help them in case they sneaked something into their pockets so it took ages for them to get through. The old lady took the wrong turn after the metal detector she was so confused and the old guy took ages to get his belt off.
