State of the contract market - Post Election

After the General Election, how is everyone finding the IT contract market?
I thought it would have picked up, given the decisive result of the Election but it still seems
    to be quiet for me.

Do you think it would have changed already since the election was only a few days ago?

      Improving in England.

Decaying in Scotland. Hang on ...

Just today I had an agent call me about a role that was absolutely unrelated to what I do and, to top it, permanent. So yes, definitely improving, I would go as far as to say bubbling hot!

I've been looking for a SC/DV cleared role for a couple of months now without luck - very quiet. However, yesterday I had more calls from agents than I have for the whole of last month. They said organisations were waiting for the election result before kicking off some new projects. Maybe will be the same in other sectors.

SC/DV roles are government based so no wonder that they shut up shop while the election was on, don't think other sector were affected IMO.

Clearly some seem to think it should!

Its not improved its actually getting worse not sure what's going on either Greece debt situation or some other geopolitical crisis brewing in the background. Triple dip recession around the corner perhaps someone somewhere is hiding bad economic news & the people who hire contractors know this right now or it could simply be way too many companies have been overstaffed for years & now are looking to shed staffing costs so contractor demand is low as technology gradually replaces people way less demand.

I have not seen it improve much all year in fact apart from the usual niche skillsets always in demand its been pretty poor across the board & rates are dropping like a stone.

The square mile where I work @ a major investment bank has been very quiet recently it seems a lot of commuters have stopped coming to work recently

I interviewed pre election offered during the election and started after. Make of that what you will.

Yes this seems to my gut feeling...that perhaps growth is slowing down and companies know this. The market has been very quiet for the past few weeks. I didn't expect to see an immediate bounceback but some form of positive reaction from business.
