Barcrap scr3w their contractors again to the tune of 10%

What kind of organisation enters into contractual agreements with other companies with the express intention of not honouring those contracts but reissuing at a 10% discount? Year-on-year for the last 3 years.

And they make this big thing of the Barclays 'VALUES' and their RESPECT initiative. What a total load of tulipe. Stay well clear of this shower.

It's not exactly reassuring but it may give some comfort in the "fairness" of it that their non-contractor suppliers are getting screwed over as well. If you choose to do business with them then you take what you get these days.

Looks like another one to submit to Egos' list of contract breakers.

This^^ It's business. Barclays do tend to run a bit close to the line by really hammering their contractors but you could argue it's why they use a flexible workforce. Just be thankful it's only them and more clients don't realise what they can get away with if they had the balls.

We have had a rate cut here as well and a friend of mine has had one at his gig as well, neither of which are on that list so I think it happens more than you realise.

I would also argue that if we were proper suppliers this would be a lot more common. I remember being in organisations that stipulated a year on year reduction as part of the contracts with external suppliers.

I used to work for various hi-tech manufacturing companies and retailers and it was very common to insist that suppliers gave cost reductions year on year. Sometimes this was phrased as the two parties collaborating to reduce costs (e.g. via better design of a particular component.)

It comes down to contracting is a buyer-supplier relationship. Sometimes the buyer has more of the bargaining power...

Lets face it, the market is cr*p at the moment. Every bank dishes out rate cuts, and none of them wait until renewal time. Standard market practice I'm afraid.
            I'm alright Jack

Market feels rubbish at the moment. Those in contracts should just sit tight - a rate reduction is better than no contract.

The banking market has been crap for the past 5 years hasn't it?

Though I know of one contractor manager who is on near a 4 figure daily rate but that's apparently front office...

I got hit by the last 10% rate cut and then had notice served at the end of october (along with plenty of others) and escorted off site with all my stuff in a box. If I ever work for BarCrap again I'll just go in there knowing that as a contractor you are a true second class citizen and that the contract itself is something that they can (and do) change as and when they want. Their respect thing is just something that they say. If you are a contractor then its does not extend to you.
Rule Number 1 - Assuming that you have a valid contract in place always try to get your poo onto your timesheet, provided that the timesheet is valid for your current contract and covers the period of time that you are billing for.

                  I preferred version 1!

Never worked for them, but is their rate higher than other banks because of this tuliptyness?

Don't contractors automatically make the calculation when they hear Barclays "so that'll be 10% for the predicted rate cut + x% for being treated like s**t?"
