I don't think they ever have in this country - in America, the defence and prosecution in many cases have an automatic right to kick out a few jurors each. But they also have much more juror profiling, and the lawyers actively question the jurors (and potential jurors) to see if they are "suitable".

In the UK, we have a much more limited system, where a juror can be excused if there is a valid exemption - for example, in the Rebekah Brooks trial, the defence objected to anyone who had a connection to the Guardian, including trying to get someone removed because they had a friend who had worked there a year ago (but didn't now).

And get some insurance. I think that would have been high on my list of things to do after the first time, to be honest.
Thanks. Can't get insurance now as it explicity asks whether you've been contacted about jury service. I checked a soon as I got the 1st notice.
I will ask for a deferral but wondered if anyone has any experience with a 2nd one and what to put...

How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think

You'd find that a significant saving on your day-to-day leisure expenditure.

Have a mistake on your electoral record. I was listed as being 75+ for years when I was 20 years younger.

can you convince them you are mentally ill? They excuse you for that.

Friend has OCD, they excused her.

Was hoping to get out of it but if I do I might take that approach. But then I think you have to wait for the next trial within the 2 week period
