      Some people view LI as a networking tool, that linking with anyone and everyone is sensible. I think that is contrary to the point of the site but it's pretty common so I wouldn't consider it weird - just ignore the invite.

        Doesn't it try and connect to everybody on their mailing list if they use that feature? I seem to have all sorts of links to people I scarcely know.
