Ah yes, as Zeity said, Dark Star (1974).

That's one of the funniest scenes. The beach ball alien flees into a lift shaft and the guy is trying ineffectually to prod at it with a broom handle.

Star wars. It was the BBC Xmas film one year when I was about 5 or 6 I think. Watching it always makes me think of Christmas

Back To The Future makes me think of Christmas in the same way, though we need to add a few decades a bit regarding the age :-)
