Don't get carried away with the apparent ruggedness of most 4x4s. If they haven't got a separate chassis, or are very heavy anyway (such as later Rangies and the big VAG ones like Q7 and Tuareg, they are just cars with a height complex. They will be equally good (or bad) at handing bad roads and off-road situations.
