Very sad. Of course all this happened a long time ago and nothing like that could ever happen again. Not in this day and age.

Does make me look back and wonder how mean kids were/allowed to be back in the day and if the current crop can be as bad. I remember people saying ' My name is .... John Merrick' in the same way he speaks in the film as well but seemed to be short lived.

Joey Deacon, a severely mentally handicapped chap who featured on a kids tv programme in the 1970's. It was (very probably) a sort of social experiment to see how kids would react to a seriously mentally handicapped person, and it kind of backfired as being called a "Joey" was considered about as insulting as it got back then. That was 40 years ago, mind, but I imagine sociologists in the future will look upon it as some sort of landmark moment. It did eventually change attitudes, it just took a while.

Dunno about changing attitude. Probably put the cause back a generation.

That said they put a lady with her arm missing from below the elbow on children's TV not so long ago and it still raised a stink, from parents this time. I guess you can change the majority put some people just can't be changed.

                No more Morning Glory...
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Yeah she was on Blue Peter.

The kids were all fine with it but some parents kicked up a stink.

If she had a false hand the kids would have been more engaged as she would be able to pop off. Adam Hills randomly pops his false foot off.

Anyway Simon Weston use to say adults had a problem with his face. Randomly some kids would have a problem until he told them it didn't hurt.
