1500 cars/day still make it, so doesn't look like the safety has improved, if anything the opposite is true, if pedestrians are not expecting cars etc.

The pedestrians don't expect bikes either. They just stare at their phones regardless of surroundings.
It needs more of those moped muggers to resolve the issue.
