      Minor questions:
What height were the bamboo trees?
What height and format was the boundary line before you put them in?
How far along the boundary line did they go?
As a result of putting them up, did you block light from your neighbour?
Did the bamboo cost you £200, or are you including the cost of the pot?
…Maybe we ain’t that young anymore

You only have to tell a prospective purchaser if a neighbour dispute escalated to exchange of letters, contact with a council, other authority or solicitors etc, about it.

The neighbour has clearly trespassed on the property by reaching over a fence and cutting down plants. Trespass is not a criminal activity.

As you're looking to sell, the best thing is to bite the bullet. It's tempting to 'have a word' with the neighbour and educate him about what he can do up to the boundary. Some people think they can do what they want.

If you want to re instate the bamboo, Id put up a netting between fence and the bamboo to at least make it difficult for the feat to be repeated.
