Seems to me that if your aspirations are merely to follow your dad into the same occupation, regardless of whether you're good at it or not, and get pissed down the boozer every day, you'll get what you deserve.

A simpler view of class is one in which people are divided into those who have to work and those who don't have to work. For the former the value of labour has been significantly reduced in the last 10 years; by mass immigration, abuses of the money supply and putative taxes on work . For rentiers it's been a bonanza.

More worthy of analysis is to investigate what processes caused division within the working class into various factions: the 'new' middle classes, the manufacture of the 'chav' and disproportionate degree of manufactured hatred directed towards those 'on benefits'.
