Default Man charged with student murders

Yep, the same one that walked into a police station to give himself up
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/7498418.stm

In addition to his other [alleged] crimes he is also being charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice. Presumably they can get him either way on that last one. If he's guilty of the other crimes he can be done for not giving himself up, and if he isn't guilty of them he can be done for giving himself up. Easy pickings, it does help a lot when they turn up to give themselves up.

Yup, I reckon that's what you're hinting at. But then I'm a bit paranoid.

What I'd like to know is how this guy, who is apparently rather small and thin, managed to truss up two sturdy students. Did he creep in and catch them asleep perhaps?

Explanation 1: They were french, they surrendered.
Explanation 2: The were playing on PSPs, so had no wrist strength

In my student days we had the wonderful ‘sus’ laws. I knew of a genuine case of someone arrested on “suspicion of conspiracy with persons unknown to commit offences unknown”. OK, so in reality all the police wanted to do was keep the guy from causing trouble during and after the football, but it was an abuse of their powers. There was another chap who was arrested for “going equipped for stealing” with the keys to his own flat and car. Yes, he was “a wrong ‘n” too.

But ‘perverting the course of justice’ by handing yourself in?!

He did barge to the front of an orderly queue, though. This is still England, surely? Some concepts are more valuable than justice, and the queue is one of them.

I think it might be for setting the place ablaze after he'd stabbed the bloke 237 times rather than handing himself in. But who knows these days.
