    If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
    Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
    And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
    His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
    If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
    Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
    Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
    Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,—
    My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
    To children ardent for some desperate glory,
    The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
    Pro patria mori.

        An interesting point. Is that UKIP's position? They should certainly clarify if so.

                I've no idea, but I suspect that it would be their position given that they are anti-foreign intervention / imperialism.

                Fighting to defend your countrymen is one thing; Fighting to plant a union flag in some far-flung corner of the world is another - and that's what fighting for a flag is.

                  Indeed. One advantage that most modern right wing and even far right wing parties in Europe have is the rejection of the idea that we should be interfering in the cultures of other nations.

                    If only it were as simple as that.
