Nobody ever asked me for any proof. I didn't even send them my P45.

But they could have asked for evidence that you'd been laid off. If you have a P45 then that's what you show them, but if you haven't done it properly then you could struggle.

I'm not sure I could be bothered to stop the payroll and issue a P45 after every contract, so that I could go and argue with the Dole Office about my entitlement, before going into another contract.

Right. You'd have to be a pretty crappy contractor for signing on to even be worth the effort!

I disagree. People who have presumably had an education and still can't be arsed to properly use punctuation, should be humiliated in public as much as possible. [Sic]s, s and generally pointing out and laughing at their failures is just providing a much needed public service and should be done as much as possible.
