Does an accountant have to be involved in the setup of a new co. when done online?

Nope - not at all. If you use the company formation tool on this site it still goes through the company you link to (@ UK Plc) so if you decide to go ahead then feel free to do it here instead

I would recommend talking to an accountant before you incorporate though, they will be able to talk about your personal circumstances to make sure that you get the most out of share allocations etc.

I'm more than willing to do it thought this website; couldn't help noticing its £75 here though, is this accurate?

For the reasons admin gave, first time, I did it through an accountant. Second time, I did it on my own.

As others have said it's not necessary to use an accountant, but some people feel more comfortable doing so as you then get advice on shares, allocations, officers and set up. Plus you can use their office as your registered & service address from the start, meaning your personal address is never public record. Getting things wrong at the start can have long lasting repercussions too - I've seen people with share capital of over £10,000 (which they then owe the company) and even someone who accidentally set up his company limited by guarantee and didn't realise his mistake until 18 months later (which is a charity set up, and means you can't take dividends).

An accountant will likely charge more, but then they'll also set up the VAT and PAYE for you too as part of the package.

It depends on whether you're happy you know what you're doing

As other have said, I went with the accountant route the first time. Second time I used these guys.

We had a client who had set their company up with a share capital of £1 million!

I would agree that talking to your accountant is the good advice if you want to form the company yourself, although getting your accountant to do the formation would be better advice.

I have see clients in the past set up their company and have shares of 10 million!

So i have to agree with all that has been said before.

If in doubt speak to an accountant or even better get the accountant to do it.

Also not all accountants charge a fee for this.
